The Jamaica Football Federation would like to express condolences to the family, friends and by extension the football fraternity for the passing of Jamaican Sports Broadcaster Donald Oliver.
Donald Oliver was a staple voice and face in Sports commentary on the island and specifically with football.
Oliver is known for his time at various mainstream media entities across the island and region and he played a role in lead commentary of the School Boy Football Competition, the Jamaica Premier League and Reggae Boyz games in the CONCACAF Nations League and specific friendlies.
His commentary style was one that brought viewers and listeners to the edge of their seats with his description of goals, players and the atmosphere.
In addition to the work experience, Oliver picked up numerous accolades along the way as in 2009 he was the recipient of the Prime Minister’s Youth Award in Journalism while in 2022 he was the recipient of the Best Television Feature/Documentary from the Press Association of Jamaica.
Outside of Football, Oliver covered the Summer and Winter Olympic Games, the Commonwealth Games amongst other events.
Interim General Secretary of the Jamaica Football Federation Roy Simpson offered condolences.
“Donald Oliver was the Jamaican Peter Drury, listening to him commentate was a joy and he represented us all as Jamaicans proudly. I first met Donald Oliver in 2010 during the 2010 FIFA World Cup at CVM-TV and from then on I knew of his ability and I am deeply distraught to hear of his passing. I would like to send condolences to the entire sporting fraternity for the passing of an erudite footballing commentator.”
